So you’re starting out on your journey to be the best version of yourself, and possibly want a filler. However, there are quite a few things to consider; such as choosing from multiple options for fillers. The best possible way to decide is through a consultation, but it helps to know a little bit before you go in. The most common dermal fillers that we offer are Juvederm and Restylane. Learning the likeness and differences in Juvederm vs Restylane may not be as complicated as you think.
This injectable has a main ingredient of HA (hyaluronic acid), which can be found in our bodies naturally. It, like other fillers, is used to get rid of unwanted lines and wrinkles. It can also add volume to tissue, such as the lips, to give a fuller, youthful look. The HA gel is injected beneath the skin and soaks up the water residing there, thus plumping the targeted area of injection. These results can last six months to a year. Juvederm Ultra XC is more likely to last a year at the very least, while Juvederm Voluma XC (recommended for contouring and adding volume to the cheeks) can last up to 2 years.
Yet another HA injectable, Restylane is a water absorbent filler as well. It is designed to target folds and wrinkles, both severe and moderate. Unlike the other fillers, however, Restylane Silk is made with smaller particles, thus making it more commonly used for lips. According to the manufacturers, the effects should last about 18 months with a full treatment of Restylane, Restylane Silk being expected to last 6 months.
You can expect generally the same range of side effects from Juvederm and Restylane fillers. These side effects should subside about a week following the initial treatment, but recovery should only take a day. After injections it’s common to experience bruising, redness, soreness, swelling, itching and mild discoloration. Any side effects that you are finding to be more serious should be reported to a doctor immediately. You should also contact your doctor if you are observing these side effects longer than 7 days, as to prevent any risks to your health.
