We offer Neurotoxins, such as Botox and Dysport, to diminish the appearance of facial wrinkles and will help you create a tailored, customized plan in order to ensure you achieve the aesthetic results you have been after.

What are the similarities between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are both neurotoxins which provide similar results in the treatment of facial wrinkles, folds and creases such as, forehead lines, crow’s feet and glabellar lines, or the lines which form between the eyebrows. Although often formed during the natural aging process, other aspects such as repeated facial expressions and involuntary muscle contracts, aid in the formation of facial wrinkles.

As we make expressions, such as frowning and squinting, the nerves within our body send a signal to the facial muscles causing them to contract, and moving the overlaying skin along with it, displaying our expressions. Over time, these contractions may cause deep facial wrinkles, folds and creases. Neurotoxins, such as Botox and Dysport, work by blocking the nerve signal to the muscle, thus temporarily reducing its ability to contract. The results cause the targeted facial muscles to relax, which in turn, causes a decrease in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. After a Botox or Dysport procedure, an individual can expect to experience the results of a smoother, more youthful appearing complexion.

What are the procedures like in Medina?

Both Botox and Dysport share similarities in the manner in which the procedure is performed. Both procedures are quick and performed in office, typically ranging from 15-20 minutes. Although, the procedures are considered to cause minimal discomfort, patients may opt to receive a topical anesthetic, prior to beginning treatment, in order to ensure a more comfortable procedure. There is no downtime associated with either Botox or Dysport, which allows patients to return to their daily activities immediately after treatment.

Neither Botox nor Dysport are recommended for individuals who have a milk allergy, are over the age of 65, are allergic to botulinum toxin and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is recommended for individuals to discontinue the use of blood thinners, such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen, a few days prior to treatment as these could increase the chance the bleeding and bruising post-treatment.

Individuals may experience mild redness, swelling, bruising and mild pain at the injection site, as well as mild headaches post-treatment. However, these side effects are common and should subside naturally within a few days post-treatment.

What are the differences?

Although, Botox and Dysport hold many of the same attributes, they also contain various differences, such as:

Dilution: Dysport is diluted differently than Botox. For a patient, this means receiving an increase in the number of units applied, when switching between Dysport to Botox or vice versa. However, this increase does not signify that Dysport is less effective than Botox, but rather that it simply requires a higher quantity to achieve the same level of results.

Molecule size: The Dysport formula contains smaller molecules compared to Botox, which may be beneficial. Smaller molecules enable Dysport to work faster than Botox, as well as spread to a larger area.

Diffusion: Dysport tends to diffuse, or spread to a wider area, more than Botox does. This can be both a positive aspect, as well as a negative one, depending on the individual. For example, a wider area of concern may be addressed however, this would categorize Dysport to be less effective in treating smaller areas where more precision is needed, as well as areas with thicker muscles.

Onset: Dysport has a quicker onset than Botox, typically revealing results within 2-5 days. Botox, on the other hand, reveals fully established results within 4-7 days.

Results: Although, Botox takes a longer duration to reveal results, the results are long-lasting, ranging up to 6 months in duration. Dysport, however typically last 3-4 months.
